You know what’s perfect for those exhaustingly hot summer days? Of course you do! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! Here at Minty Jungle HQ, we looooove to cool down on a hot day with a scoop or two (or three) of delicious ice cream. In LA, there are tons of ice cream shops but we’ll give you a run down of our top five faves!

1.Peddler’s Creamery

Peddler’s is located in Downtown LA. In comparison to some of the other shops on our list, these guys are SUPER unique because the ice cream is churned by bicycle! Yup, you read that right! Customers who come in to the store around 7-8PM get the chance to churned ice cream by peddling on a bike right in the store. If you peddle and help them make ice cream, you get a free scoop of ice cream. We’re so down! Peddler’s offers house-made ice cream, sorbet, and vegan desserts prepared with local and organic ingredients.
Our Fave Flavor: Mint Chocolate Cookies n’ Cream.

2. Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw is originally from the hipster-foodie capital of Portland, Oregon. Thank God it’s now available for us LA natives in Larchmont Village. Salt & Straw puts an artisanal churn on your normal scoop of ice cream. Their classic flavors consists Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache, Freckled Woodblock Chocolate, Avocado Strawberry, Stumptown Coffee & Compartes Love Nuts, along with too many other explosive flavors. They also have seasonal flavors that are unique and dangerously delicious. If you can’t decide on which flavor you want try, their flight plate is only $10 and comes with your choice of four flavors from both classic and seasonal menus.

3. Scoops

Scoops might look plain from their exterior, but it is definitely a must-try! This place known for their unexpected flavor combinations like Guinness Chocolate, Brown Bread, Strawberry Balsamic, Banana Oreo, and Bacon Caramel. They have different flavors everyday, so your favorite might not be there on a daily, but it does give you the chance to be daring and give something new a try! They also have a suggestion board where customers can suggest flavor combinations they want to see. Scoops has many locations in LA, so make sure to stop by your nearest one asap!

Saffron & Rose’s flavors are really different from the classic flavors that normal ice cream places have. They have one of a kind flavors like White Rose, Saffron pistachio, orange blossom, watermelon, cucumber, and many more. Brunch Alert: BLD in Los Angeles

Looking for a new go-to brunch spot in the good old City of Angels? Check out bld (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on Beverly Blvd! They serve simple yet delicious food made with high-quality, seasonal ingredients. Their most popular dishes are the Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes and the Braised Pork & Poached Eggs. A friend and I split the two dishes, and we did NOT regret a thing. Splitting with your girlfriend is always a perfect way to try all of those yummy items on the menu that are just way too hard to pass up! You’ve just got to get both those sweet AND savory cravings satisfied– duh! Out of the two dishes, the Ricotta Blueberry pancakes were definitely my fave. The dish was an upgraded and fancier version of your average blueberry pancake.

As far as vibe, bld has definitely got a great thing going. The restaurant even has outside seating, which is always nice for those sunny LA days. It’s conveniently located near the Beverly Center, which is perfect for walking off all of the delicious food ;)

Japanese Candy Mystery Box

We get a little bored here at the Minty Jungle with just Snickers, Reeses, Skittles, and all of that basic grocery store candy selection. Our taste buds cry out for something a little more exciting, daring, and wacky! Damn those pesky taste buds– we had no choice but to give in to them! Maybe you guys have already noticed a little mysterious item on our site? It’s the Japanese Candy Mystery Box! One order of this box comes with three randomly selected packs of explosive flavor and fun shapes and sizes for your delight. We did some taste testing in the Minty Jungle kitchen and we found some funky flavors and textures such as soda, milky, cream, fizzy, etc. Live a little and try some delicacies that can’t be found at your local grocery store ;)

When Life Gives You Lemons…

Ahh.. the popular saying “When life gives you lemons…” What do you do when you hear it? It’s Summer! Channel your younger self and make some lemonade, duh! Well.. not everybody likes lemonade., so here’s a couple of other ideas to use your new found lemons.

1. Lemons are a great natural bleach for getting yellow stains out! If you love to get those nails done, but hate what the polishes and other chemicals do to your nails, we def understand the struggle. The next time you feel like going au naturel, soak your nails in a mixture of warm water and lemon, rinse well, and live ya life, girlfriend!

2. Refresh your cutting boards – Throw some salt on to your cutting board and rub it with lemon. Rinse off, and you’re good to go. It’s a big “F U” to salmonella!

3. Take this advice:

Now get outta here and squeeze out as much worth as you can from those lemons of yours!

Tasty Tuesday: Mexican Fruit Stand

In honor of Cinco De Mayo, we thought we’d share one of our favorite all-time snacks! As you might know, Minty Jungle is based out of the concrete jungle of Los Angeles, so everywhere we look, we’re sure to find colorful displays of food that makes our tummies smile. One of the best things you’ll find in Downtown LA is the crazy amounts of Mexican fruit stands. It’s so common to walk down the street on a hot sunny day and notice a bunch of fresh fruits staring at you in the face screaming, “Buy me!” It’s quite hard to resist when the vendor has a charming smile on his face and motions you over to the stand. Sweet salvation all while being healthy? Yes, please!

Read on to find out more about our fave munchies!

Have you guys ever heard of Tajin Fruit Seasoning? You’ll often come across it at any fruit stand you pass. Here’s what it looks like sprinkled over some tasty treats:

Tajin is a Mexican company that produces several varieties of seasoning, most consisting of an awesome combination of chile peppers, lime, and salt. You can throw it on just about any fruits or veggies.

With warmer days ahead, this makes for the perfect summer snack with a spicy kick! If you guys haven’t tried this delicious treat yet, don’t wave that vendor off next time. Or better yet, cut up your own fruits and veggies at home and throw on some Tajin! You can thank us later ;) Happy snacking! ^.^
