DIY: Corkboard World Map

Calling all Wanderlust lovers! This DIY project is perfect for you to keep track of all the places you’ve been to and for all the places  you plan on visiting. It’s just the right decor for any travel fiend’s room. This DIY is totally affordable, which means you’ll have some money to save for your next trip ;)

Materials:
-Cork
-Wall safe adhesive (double sided tape, stickies)
-Pins
-Scrap booking paper (optional for flags)
Tools:
-Cutting board
-X-acto knife
-Map image (Give this one a try!)
-Wire cutters (optional for flags)
-Glue gun (optional for flags)
-Sharpie (optional for flags)

1. Print your map
You may or may not want to adjust the size of your map (blockposters.com is a great website to enlarge it).

2. Tape the printed copy of your map to a piece of cork
Make sure that your cork is large enough to fit the entire map. If you don’t have a large enough piece, try gluing pieces together before matching the paper up to the cork.

3. Take your x-acto knife and start cutting out that map of yours!
If some continents are on different papers make sure it is connected on the cork board so that when you cut it, its one whole continent (when you cut, try to keep track of which little island belongs where — unfortunately, it’s easy to get those little guys mixed up or lost).

4. Place double sided tape on the back side of your finished pieces
It might be easier for you to lay out the continents in the right order before putting the double sided tape on. When you’re ready to tape the map on the wall you’ll have it in the right order (:

5. Tape your map onto your wall

6. Create your flags:
– Grab some scrap paper and cut it into small strips
– Take some pins and cut em with the wire cutter to the length you’d personally like
– Get a long strip of scrap and place the pin in the middle. Fold the strip in half and hot glue gun it together
Your pins are all ready for you to write all the places you been and place it in the right spot on the map. You can even get creative by color coding your scraps with the different places you been and places you want to go!

Get creative with this DIY and make this map your own :)

A great way to kick off your day is the infamous acai bowl! Instead of the usual acai base, try pitaya, a dragonfruit base that’ll turn your bowl bright neon pink! Top your base with some strawbs, kiwi’s, nana’s, and add some granola for some extra crunch!

In need of something more fulfilling? Try protein pancakes or belgian waffles. Again, don’t forget to add your favorite fruits! To really top it off, add a drizzle of almond butter or Nutella on top! Promise its delish!

Fruits are the way to go! Watermelons, Apples, Kiwis, Cantaloupe, you name it! Add them to your salads or just eat ’em raw. Package them in a cute mason jar to take to-go. Add a scoop of peanut or almond butter if you need an extra boost!

Brunch Alert: BLD in Los Angeles

Looking for a new go-to brunch spot in the good old City of Angels? Check out bld (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on Beverly Blvd! They serve simple yet delicious food made with high-quality, seasonal ingredients. Their most popular dishes are the Ricotta Blueberry Pancakes and the Braised Pork & Poached Eggs. A friend and I split the two dishes, and we did NOT regret a thing. Splitting with your girlfriend is always a perfect way to try all of those yummy items on the menu that are just way too hard to pass up! You’ve just got to get both those sweet AND savory cravings satisfied– duh! Out of the two dishes, the Ricotta Blueberry pancakes were definitely my fave. The dish was an upgraded and fancier version of your average blueberry pancake.

As far as vibe, bld has definitely got a great thing going. The restaurant even has outside seating, which is always nice for those sunny LA days. It’s conveniently located near the Beverly Center, which is perfect for walking off all of the delicious food ;)

Travel Tuesdays: Hot Air Balloons Rides In The Los Angeles Area

I’m sure you guys have all looked up at the big blue sky and wondered what it’s like to drift amongst the clouds. What’s it like to get a bird’s eye view of the lush landscape and our concrete jungle below? Our team here at the Minty Jungle has agreed that a hot air balloon is a definite must on our bucket list! It’s an exploration of our earth’s surface filled with a feeling of adventure, wanderlust, and maybe even a little bit of romance. Unfortunately, this probably isn’t for the faint of heart with a fear of heights. But we would totally recommend facing those fears to get a breathtaking view of the land we live on!

We did a bit of research, and found that pricing ranges roughly around $150 for a ride per person. Here are some links for you guys to check out in the greater Los Angeles Area:

All of these websites look great, BUT we’ll let you guys in on a little secret on how to get this amazing experience without breaking the bank!

The Orange County Great Park hosts affordable rides on Thursdays through Sundays. It costs $10 per person to hitch a ride on one of their iconic Great Park Balloons! Make sure to check out their sweet deals on package pricing.

Now, if you’re going to be a cheeseball and do a marriage proposal on the ride, we suggest any of the first few options because you can’t put a price on love!

So head on over to the Minty Jungle to pick the perfect outfit for your sky high date. Then, text your loved ones to make this rad date idea come to fruition. Stay fly and get high! ;P

Traveling on a Budget: Top 5 West Coast Road Tripping Spots

I’m pretty sure most of us can agree on the fact that adventures are the best ways to spend free time. So why not go on some every once a while? Traveling not only expands your mind, culture views, and perspectives, but it’s also a nice palate change from your typical routine. So, because we know traveling ain’t cheap, the Minty team decided to do some research on cool travel spots for those of us on a bit of a budget!

As far as accommodations, we personally prefer to go with quaint and simple rather than huge lavish hotels. If that’s the case with you too, make sure to check out www.airbnb.com where they have private homes to rent at great prices! If you want to go for the full traveler’s experience, you can try out www.hostels.com which has amazingly low prices. This option, however, gives you more of a dorm experience.

Now that we’ve given you a couple of  accommodation options, let’s move on to our top 5 places to visit in the good old California West Coast!

1. Santa Barbara

So whats cool about Santa Barbara aside from the beaches the shopping and the wine? Lately, this little city’s art community has been creating a lot of noise! There’s a full list of activities including art festivals, water sports, food, and shopping. Check out the full deets HERE!

2. San Francisco

San Francisco has been a popular mini mecca for a while now. Here are some cool examples of what to do in this hip city: Take a walk up to the Golden Gate Bridge, try the famous dumplings at Yank Sing, ride a historic cable car, try a a burrito from the Mission District, take a night tour of Alcatraz Island, explore the country’s largest Chinatown, or climb a secret stairway! We know that some of these ideas sound pretty strange, but click on the links to learn more. We promise you’ll be in for some good cheap fun!

3.Las Vegas

Vegas on a budget sounds almost impossible, BUT we do have some pretty good tips on how to keep this trip from emptying your pockets. First of all: FOOD. Most restaurants in Vegas stop serving food at around 10:30 pm and turn strictly into bars. But since a lot of those famous Vegas shows are over by that time, and tons of people are getting out, some restaurants have what they call “reverse happy hour” where they serve appetizers and drinks. Make sure to check out www.lasvegashappyhour.net to find all the inside scoop deals! We know that drinking in Vegas can get crazy expensive, so if you’re feeling super thrifty, try sitting down at the penny slots at a casino where you can get a drink for free. Make sure to play slow, drink fast, and tip your server well!

4. Palm Springs

Most of you might know Palm Springs as an old retirement area, but as of late, this city has become a haven for young people to have tons of fun in the sun! You can do a vast range of free activities such as going for a hike, walk the local art walks, and visit the Native American museum, and most of all– GO TO POOL PARTIES! Click HERE for a full list of fun stuff to do in Palm Springs!

5. San Diego

Ah…. one of America’s finest. What can’t you do in San Diego? The vibe is extremely chill, and the people even more so! How could you not fall in love with this city? Some must-see places include any of the city’s ocean beach cliffs. Every Wednesday, local farmer’s market take over all of Newport Ave. to sell their home made goodies that won’t price you out. For a cool nightlife scene, make sure you go to the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego. And when you need something to cure your full night of partying, brunch along Seaport Village is another cool stop! If you are feeling a little edgy and adventurous make sure top stop by at Black’s Beach in La Jolla– the only legal nude beach around XD
