We All Scream For Ice Cream: Top 5 Ice Cream Spots In LA

You know what’s perfect for those exhaustingly hot summer days? Of course you do! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! Here at Minty Jungle HQ, we looooove to cool down on a hot day with a scoop or two (or three) of delicious ice cream. In LA, there are tons of ice cream shops but we’ll give you a run down of our top five faves!

1.Peddler’s Creamery

Peddler’s is located in Downtown LA. In comparison to some of the other shops on our list, these guys are SUPER unique because the ice cream is churned by bicycle! Yup, you read that right! Customers who come in to the store around 7-8PM get the chance to churned ice cream by peddling on a bike right in the store. If you peddle and help them make ice cream, you get a free scoop of ice cream. We’re so down! Peddler’s offers house-made ice cream, sorbet, and vegan desserts prepared with local and organic ingredients.
Our Fave Flavor: Mint Chocolate Cookies n’ Cream.

2. Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw is originally from the hipster-foodie capital of Portland, Oregon. Thank God it’s now available for us LA natives in Larchmont Village. Salt & Straw puts an artisanal churn on your normal scoop of ice cream. Their classic flavors consists Almond Brittle with Salted Ganache, Freckled Woodblock Chocolate, Avocado Strawberry, Stumptown Coffee & Compartes Love Nuts, along with too many other explosive flavors. They also have seasonal flavors that are unique and dangerously delicious. If you can’t decide on which flavor you want try, their flight plate is only $10 and comes with your choice of four flavors from both classic and seasonal menus.
Our Fave Flavors: Stumptown Coffee & Compartes Love Nuts (classic) and Peppermint Hot Cocoa (winter seasonal menu)

3. Scoops

Scoops might look plain from their exterior, but it is definitely a must-try! This place known for their unexpected flavor combinations like Guinness Chocolate, Brown Bread, Strawberry Balsamic, Banana Oreo, and Bacon Caramel. They have different flavors everyday, so your favorite might not be there on a daily, but it does give you the chance to be daring and give something new a try! They also have a suggestion board where customers can suggest flavor combinations they want to see. Scoops has many locations in LA, so make sure to stop by your nearest one asap!
Our Fave Flavor: Guinness Coffee

4. Carmela Ice Cream

Carmela Ice Cream is known for their cute interior and refreshing ice cream flavors. They use natural ingredients for some of their ice cream flavors such as Fresh Mint with Cacao Nibs, Lavender Honey, Cranberry Orange Thyme Sorbet, and Roasted Sweet Potato. Carmela also has seasonal flavors and weekly flavors so keep your eyes open for those!
Our Fave Flavors: Earl Grey tea and Fresh Mint w/ Cacao Nibs

5. Saffron & Rose Ice Cream

Saffron & Rose might not look like the fanciest ice cream place from the outside, but exotic ice cream flavors await you on the inside. Saffron & Rose is famous for their organic Persian ice cream. Saffron & Rose’s flavors are really different from the classic flavors that normal ice cream places have. They have one of a kind flavors like White Rose, Saffron pistachio, orange blossom, watermelon, cucumber, and many more. The unique flavors are definitely worth trying, so if your ever in Westwood make sure you swing by Saffron & Rose for a taste!

Music Monday: Halsey

redeye-halsey

Up and coming indie singer, Halsey, is for sure an artist to look out for! This 20 year-old beauty is definitely catching peoples’ attention with her hauntingly beautiful voice, edgy sound, and super relatable lyrics. Not to mention, we’re loving her totally rad style and colored hair! Totally Minty Muse worthy!

Halsey started off her career by posting cover songs on YouTube. In 2014, she recorded an original song called Ghost and posted it to YouTube and SoundCloud. Her original song got her tons of attention and played a big role in getting her signed to NYC based label, Astralwerks. Later on that year, Halsey released her debut EP titled Room 93. The EP was a “visual” with four of the five songs with its own video.

It wasn’t till this year that Halsey started making head wave. During South by Southwest, she was the most talked about person online. Her debut album “BADLANDS” released August 28, 2015. On the album, you can find Halsey’s most popular songs like “Hold Me Down,” “New Americana,” and “Drive.”

Feel like givin’ the album a listen? We’ve got you covered! (:

DIY: Corkboard World Map

Calling all Wanderlust lovers! This DIY project is perfect for you to keep track of all the places you’ve been to and for all the places  you plan on visiting. It’s just the right decor for any travel fiend’s room. This DIY is totally affordable, which means you’ll have some money to save for your next trip ;)

Materials:
-Cork
-Wall safe adhesive (double sided tape, stickies)
-Pins
-Scrap booking paper (optional for flags)
Tools:
-Cutting board
-X-acto knife
-Map image (Give this one a try!)
-Wire cutters (optional for flags)
-Glue gun (optional for flags)
-Sharpie (optional for flags)

1. Print your map
You may or may not want to adjust the size of your map (blockposters.com is a great website to enlarge it).

2. Tape the printed copy of your map to a piece of cork
Make sure that your cork is large enough to fit the entire map. If you don’t have a large enough piece, try gluing pieces together before matching the paper up to the cork.

3. Take your x-acto knife and start cutting out that map of yours!
If some continents are on different papers make sure it is connected on the cork board so that when you cut it, its one whole continent (when you cut, try to keep track of which little island belongs where — unfortunately, it’s easy to get those little guys mixed up or lost).

4. Place double sided tape on the back side of your finished pieces
It might be easier for you to lay out the continents in the right order before putting the double sided tape on. When you’re ready to tape the map on the wall you’ll have it in the right order (:

5. Tape your map onto your wall

6. Create your flags:
– Grab some scrap paper and cut it into small strips
– Take some pins and cut em with the wire cutter to the length you’d personally like
– Get a long strip of scrap and place the pin in the middle. Fold the strip in half and hot glue gun it together
Your pins are all ready for you to write all the places you been and place it in the right spot on the map. You can even get creative by color coding your scraps with the different places you been and places you want to go!

Get creative with this DIY and make this map your own :)
